Hey friend,
I had the best time photographing this wedding up at a gorgeous mountain lodge here in Colorado. From the moment I arrived, the whole day just felt wrapped in something special, like the mountains themselves were leaning in to celebrate.
The couple was bursting with happiness and so genuinely thrilled to be getting married. You could sense it right away in the how they moved through the day with big smiles and easy laughter. It felt like nothing could dim that light they carried with them.

The setting was absolutely stunning. The lodge sits up in the mountains with these incredible views all around. We lucked out with soft overcast skies that day and one of those perfect lighting situations that gives everything a gentle, even glow. No harsh shadows, just rich colors and that beautiful, flattering light that makes portraits feel warm and real. It was the kind of day where the rugged peaks and wide-open landscapes became this dreamy backdrop for their love story.
A huge part of what made the day flow so smoothly was their day-of coordinator Kayla. She was phenomenal. With her walkie-talkies she kept everything moving gently and on time. She handled all the little details and questions so the bride could just focus on getting ready without anyone bothering her or pulling her in different directions. The getting-ready time actually felt joyful and relaxed instead of frantic.
Having a good day-of coordinator can make such a difference, especially if you’re not having a full wedding planner. They take care of the timeline, answer questions from vendors and family, and handle the little things so you (and your loved ones) can actually be present and enjoy the day instead of stressing over logistics. It’s one of those supports that turns a potentially overwhelming day into something much more peaceful and fun. We actually offer day-of coordination as part of our services too, and days like this remind me how valuable that extra layer of calm can be.

Several times throughout the day I caught the couple just standing together on the balcony, quietly looking out at the mountains. They were completely present, fully enjoying each other and the moment with no phones, no rushing, just soaking it all in. Those quiet, unscripted pauses were some of my favorite parts to photograph. They showed how deeply they were living their wedding day, not just performing it.

When we first chatted, the bride mentioned in her questionnaire that she loves a very romantic vibe in her photos, and that came through so beautifully in the tender way they looked at each other and the easy laughter they shared. Those real, heart-filled connections are what make photographing weddings feel so special.

And the reception brought even more fun. The caterers were full of energy and heart. Toward the end of the night they started dancing and playing around with everyone as the music kicked up. At one point one of the bridesmaids jumped right in and danced with them and I’m pretty sure it was the Cha-Cha Slide. My second photographer accidentally left her phone on the bar top, and the caterers picked it up and snapped a couple of funny selfies before setting it back down. She noticed it later that night on the drive home. When we saw those photos it gave us a little laugh. Little unexpected moments like that are what make a wedding feel alive and full of heart.

Days like this are why I love what I do. When the right support lets a couple stay fully present, the vendors join in the joy, and real moments unfold against those Western Slope mountains, the photos just happen naturally. It stops feeling like work and starts feeling like being part of something real and beautiful.
This same kind of warm, connected energy is what I chase in every couple session and wedding I photograph and it’s the heart behind the retreats Dan and I host too. Whether it’s a big celebration like this one or something more intimate, it’s all about capturing moments with heart and building connections that last.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding day where you actually get to soak it all in, or if you’re looking for couple photos that feel like you, I’d love to hear your story. Let’s grab a coffee (or whatever fuels your adventures) and let’s make some magic together.
Warmly, Kena
